Pulled Apart By Horses are gracing our shores yet again since smashing stages on the Soundwave 2014 tour. This time they’re hosting their own headline shows. Tonight the Leeds lads hit Brisbane’s Crowbar, with a group of local fans who are ready and raring for a good old fashion face melting.
PABH have given themselves quite a rep since releasing their first album in 2010, with their eclectic style of punk infused alternative rock known for ‘freaking’ people out. Their most recent album Blood, released last year, brings together these freakish qualities with some hard hitting classic rock style. They have also managed to build a rep for putting on an intense live show, and what better place to witness such mayhem than the dank underground of Crowbar in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
The quartet open up with Hot Squash, a hard hitting opener not only on tonight’s setlist but also on Blood. Hot Squash is a brilliant introduction to PABH, as it’s pounding drum beat and classic rock style structure calls for a plethora of head banging. The remainder of the set is seamless balance of songs across the three released albums, including a killer cover of The Stooges’ I Wanna Be Your Dog and absolutely nailing it. The fellas end on High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive; a fantastic finale to the night as the band let out the last bit of energy they have in the unseasonably steamy Crowbar.
Although there aren’t many present at the underground gig, this doesn’t seem to faze PABH at all, as they still seem humbled by the fact that they are even playing a show in Brisbane, Australia. PABH further live up to their live show expectations with plenty of stage jumps, Jager shot breaks and frontman Tom Hudson even making an appearance amongst the crowd for a bit of a shred.
Needless to say, although it was a bit of a disappointment not many decided to join the ruckus tonight, we are sure they will be selling out shows next time in AUS.
