Montaigne’s Guide to…LONDON!

13

Montaigne is just about to embark upon a pretty hekkers schedule, what with the release of her new single Because I Love You and the announcement of not only her DEBUT FULL LENGTH ALBUM, but also a HUGE tour to boot in September/October. So luckily for us, she had enough time to sit down and play tour guide for a while with us.

This week’s ‘guide to…’ has a slightly more international flavour, with pop priestess Montaigne giving us the cheeky inside scoop on how to REALLY do London. Sure, We all know about London’s Big attractions, but what about where to find  a vegan buffet? Or how to avoid uncontrollable willies? Montaigne’s got you covered.

If you are not already frantically booking your flights to London, and have a bit of cash left over, make sure you nab tickets to Montaigne’s upcoming headline tour, and if you can’t afford either, you can always give yourself a skint-proof treat and listen to her latest single Because I Love you for free at the bottom of this article. along with tour dates, ticket info and links galore.

A Montaigne Guide to…LONDON!

Where to Eat: TIBITS. Tibits is the shiz. It’s a buffet style restaurant and bar with a pay-by-weight system. And the food is heavenly. Vegetarian and vegan.

Tibits

Where to Drink: I don’t drink so I couldn’t really tell you where my ~fave spot~ is, but there is literally a bar/pub on every corner in London so just pick one.

Where to stay/AirBNB it: I’ve never air bnbed almost anywhere so…

Where to Party: I don’t…party much…either…I’m sorry I’m so lame. Soho seems to be a pretty happening place though.

Where to eat at 2am: London does not have lockout laws and there are seriously so many places to eat at 2am, though I do love a good 2am falafel, so find one of those ubiquitous cheap, late-night falafel places, which are dotted around the city.

Where to find your new favourite band: WELL, while I was there, I played at The Islington, which probably isn’t THE club to go to however it’s really lovely, the staff are highly hospitable, the room is cosy, and the bands they book are clearly of top quality (the band I supported was great, they were called Lovespeake and they were from Sweden and they’d arrived by train that morning). Also, Sainsbury’s is just across the road, so if you’re pining for some post-gig soy yoghurt like I was, you’re covered.

Where to escape the tourists: Pretty difficult in London tbh. You’d have to go out to more suburban areas, which I haven’t been to. Although both Angel and Shepherd’s Bush (which I went to) were pretty suburban I guess? Angel is where The Islington is located and Shepherd’s Bush is home to Shepherd’s Bush Markets (where you can find gloriously cheap falafel rolls), some great venues and rehearsal spaces, and a bit of history here and there. Apparently it’s also a common haunt for Australian expats.

Where to spend your hungover days: Hahaaaaaa again I don’t drink but Hyde Park is amazing and there is SO much space that it would be all too easy to find peaceful and natural solitude there in the middle of that big ol’ city. Also, there are wild rabbits and squirrels. So pretty dude. If it’s raining though…stay at home m8.

What to complain about with other locals: The tiny crampedness of the underground during peak hours. Those compartments are teeny.

Where to find true love: Come now. True love can be found anywhere. You never know when or where you’re gonna bump into the yang to your yin. It probs won’t be in Piccadilly Circus though. Just saying.

Where to avoid: In the case of safety – London is pretty damn safe! I suppose you should generally just be careful as a woman going out drinking and partying and what not because of the inevitable tossers with grabby hands and uncontrollable dicks out to play.

Which London bands to listen to whilst here: While I was in London I had a strong urge to listen to Lily Allen. Also, Everything Everything is a dear love of mine, and Coldplay. You may think I care about your negative opinion about Coldplay, but you would be wrong.
