Oliver Tank’s Guide to… Sydney!

Oliver Tank has been melting hearts for years with his super moody, ambient electronica tracks. After the release of his dreamy debut LP aptly named OT, the Sydney-sider preps to tour the beautiful goddamn record around the country. Full dates below. In the meantime, let Oliver show you the ropes to Sydney town – as it turns out he’s also a wizard behind the lens! What can’t he do???

Where to Eat?

Shenkin Cafe Enmore. A really great cafe with friendly staff and awesome food. Just a 10 minute walk from my place so I frequent it a lot. They’ve got an awesome breakfast menu but there open for lunch and dinner also. My favourite is the Australian breakfast.

Where to Drink?

Lobo Plantation in the city.  Nice underground cocktail bar in the city. It has beautiful decor and a huge variety of drinks to choose from. The place has a great vibe. It can get really busy on the weekends so get there early.

Where to Party?

Hudson Ballroom in the city. Formally known as Plan B and before that Good God Small Club. They’ve got some cool hip hop parties on weekly. Slime every Friday and Halfway Crooks once a month. Plus a bunch of other really cool events there.

Where to find your new favourite band?

Oxford Art Factory or Hudson Ballroom. There are also a lot of cool warehouse parties happening because a lot of venues are closing where you can find some cool artists/DJs

Where to spend your hungover days?

Henson Park. A really beautiful park in the back of Marrickville. Its very peaceful and I go there sometimes to listen to music or just to get away from it all. They also play rugby league there some weekends if you’re keen to catch a game.

What to complain about with other locals?

Lockout Laws, apartments going up everywhere, constant construction and traffic. A lot of this stuff isn’t new or particular to Sydney but its not great. Still despite its problems I still love the city.

Where to hang with pals?

Camperdown Basketball courts. I play ball down here 3-4 nights a week. They just recently renovated the whole park and it’s really beautiful. Lots of good pickup games going on most nights and all day during the weekends. One of my favourite spots in Sydney!
