Quality Time with Vera Blue

QUALITY TIME! With Vera Blue

Vera Blue is coming to the end of what must have been a whirlwind tour with Mr Dreamy Matt Corby and is making huge steps towards becoming one of Australia’s favourite indie darlings. We sat down to have a chat with Vera (alias of Celia Pavey) to ask her all about croissants, her upcoming EP and her prowess on the triangle.

Questions and words by Eli Marsland

BF: First off, there’s been a debate raging in parliament about the strengths and weaknesses of Bagels vs Croissants, which do you prefer and why?

VB: Croissants for sure!! The ones with the chocolate inside are insaaane!!

When you’re not involved in the Great Pastry Debate, what do you get up to in your spare time?

I guess I write music? Do yoga, eat chocolate aaaaaand dance!

BF: I have noticed you don’t mind a spot of Pilates, do you ever fear you might tie yourself into a knot?

VB: Haha! Well, not really, I’m not very flexy so I guess that stops that from happening.

BF: To music now, it’s well documented that you’ve gone through a bit of a transition period before presenting the Vera Blue we see and hear today, what’s it like having a true outlet free of creative constraints?

VB: It is incredible. I’ve just been given the time to breathe, work hard, and experiment with new sounds and working with some really passionate and talented people which have helped me develop as an artist. I’ve learnt so much about myself as a person and as an artist.

BF: Obviously this forthcoming EP encapsulates all of that, how does it feel to present a body of work with this level of authenticity and have so many people connect to it?

VB: It feels unreal. It’s really special, we’ve worked hard. So much emotion has been poured into this work, and for people to be connecting and feeling something from is the most incredible feeling.

BF:A clear indicator of the traction your making in people’s hearts is selling out nearly every single one of your shows for your upcoming tour. How many triangle solos can we expect?

VB: Not too sure what triangle solos mean.

BF:Because I’m telepathic I already know your going to have an enormous 2016, but can we get an exclusive on whether you may or may not be reviving nu-metal? If not, what can we expect for you in the next 12 months?

VB: Oh thank you!!! Haha no metal from me.

Just really fleshing out what we can do with production and my folky roots to take my music to the next level.

BF: And then after you’ve taken over the world with your music, you’ll be…
VB: Still the same, just super stoked that my music could be changing lives and helping people.

Thanks for your time hey, I really appreciate it!

Vera Blue’s latest single Hold is excellent and you should listen right meow.
