“Cleverly constructed, dreamy vocals, and orgasmic orchestral pieces are the foundation of this dazzling debut record.”

This is NOT an April Fools Day prank! Or is it? No, it isn’t – the joke’s on you! The truth is that Mayfair Kytes have dropped their dreamy debut record Animus on us 1st April 2016.

There is a strong chance this record was conceived from the bed of the band. A few songs suggest to “get out of bed” though the alluring vocals and melodies from the Melbourne four-piece may drive you to pull the covers back over your head and put the album on repeat.

The record opens with a simple yet strangely haunting 5-note piano line that carries through most of the song. Packed with plenty of ooooh’s and ahhhh’s, a brooding bass line and straight up orchestral wizardry, Seasonal Thaw perfectly sets the tone of this dreamy record.

The jaw droppingly beautiful album single Sleepyhead chimes in at track five. If you manage to listen to this song only once, please seek medical attention. The track has so many peaks and troughs- it builds up some serious tension only to slowly drop it’s sound over you like a waterfall.

Curiously titled album closer Felonoius Rift drops some scents of Radiohead vs. Chet Faker in all of it’s glitch pop, folky, goodness – a delicious way to close out Animus. This record gives you more and more each listen through; it’s layered very intelligently in a way that you discover strategically placed doozies from start to finish. It’s safe to say Mayfair Kytes have found their very own formula to writing a great song.

Cleverly constructed, dreamy vocals, and orgasmic orchestral pieces are the foundation of this dazzling debut record. It’s just so refreshing when a young act drop a debut record which is not only top notch, but also boasts such a unique, already distinguished sound. We’re super excited to see what comes next from Mayfair Kytes. If you’re in Melbourne or Sydney you’re in luck! Be sure to check out the Animus Album mini-tour – Dates/Tix below.

We have the honour to premiere a short video for the band outlining the mission statement and purpose of Animus!

“I at least like to think they are all moving in a forward direction and trying to find some sort of resolution or conclusion” Vocalist/guitarist Matt Kelly on the songs of Animus.
