Harry Heart has been off the radar for quite some time. One minute he’s doing his thing, playing shows around the country, releasing singles and partying hard, the next he’s just up and vanished. Many Heart fans have been asking the same questions-just what the bloody hell has happened to Harry Heart? Is he alive? When do we get more sweet sweet Heart music?
Well, turns out he’s taken somewhat of a sabbatical to our country’s wild west, locked himself away with an acoustic guitar and written some ripper tunes in the gentle confines of Fremantle’s J-Shed, a warehouse-turned-art studio by the sea. The result? A four track acoustic EP called Sun Follows, a blend of east coast and west coast influences, all written, recorded and produced by none other than the H-man himself.
Turns out a trip across the Nullarbor is the creative viagra we’ve all been looking for because the first single from the 4 track EP, I Got Old is an absolute cracker. Far from the cocksure rock n roll wailings typical of his previous ‘electrified’ work, I Got Old feels like a warm hug on a cold day. Nothing recorded so close to the shaka-brah’s of the West Australian beach has ever sounded so raw and understated. More like Justin Vernon in a cave than Jason Mraz on the boardwalk.
The EP comes out July 14th, and I hear on the grapevine that Harry will be back East sooner than we think with shows and more new music in tow. Exciting stuff.
